Continental GatorSkin DuraSkin Tire

Never buying from Movatik again. The GatorSkin tire is one of the best tires I have ever ridden on. This is an exception to the norm. With less than 100 miles on the tire I had a blow out and replaced the tube. Three miles latter my back up tube blew. The problem was the tire separated near the rim allowing the tube to pinch out. During the 60 mile time trial I had to call support 42 miles into the ride to get a lift. I ended up having to walk 2.5 miles in a heat index of 105+ to get close enough to a road to be picked up from the paved bike path. Movatik stated they are waiting for the manufacturer to respond instead of just sending me a replacement tire. Not only poor customer service but definitely the last time I purchase from Movatik; not only that, their correspondence quit responding!

I ordered two Gatorskin 25mm tires for my road bike and put them on. Ive had great experience with Gatorskin products in the past. Once on, I found that the back tire was rubbing against the frame of the bike in one part of the revolution. At first I thought this must mean that I had bent the rim and it was out of true. I took the bike to my bike mechanic who called and told me the wheel was fine and true. The problem was that despite the tire I purchased being marked 25mm it is actually a 28mm tire, and that is larger than my bike frame can accept. Unfortunately, with all the delays in getting service done, by the time I discovered this, I was a week beyond the return deadline. This has never happened with other Gatorskin product Ive purchased (and indeed, didnt with the other tire I bought at the same time), but clearly there was some kind of quality control issue at the factory where a 28mm tire got marketed and sold as a 25mm tire.

Gatorskin tires have proven to be durable and effective on the infamous chip-seal road surfaces that tend to be bumpy. While no tire can survive some road hazards that cause a pinch flat in the tube, these tires are durable and smooth riding. The Amazon price is nearly 2 for 1 compared to many bike shop prices.

I actually got a puncture on these things. Which I find completely fascinating considering the strength theyre supposed to have so something was either severely sharp and got through all of those layers or because the walls arent as strong here. Had use fix a flat to get it to seal and Im hoping that will work until I get back home. Clearly the road bike version isnt that strong as others.

Two flats in three weeks of nearly daily riding. Both flats were due to sharp objects, not pinch flats. One flat was caused by a small goathead; the other was something sharp. I ride on urban and country paved roads and keep my tires properly inflated. These tires have been no more puncture resistant than other tires I have used. Im disappointed. Now I want to replace these two tires even though their tred is still nearly new.
