DEWALT 20V MAX* LED Work Light / Flashlight (DCL040)

Light works fine. Battery connects and disconnects easily, no binding. Old light had a 10% (ish) brighter spot and slightly further throw. New light has better flood, but slightly less throw and a bit dimmer spot. For most folks working under the sink or some such, either is fine. For me, spotting the livestock to check them at night, the old light was better. This’ll prolly do, especially as I get used to it, but there is a noticeable difference. Then there’s the Made in China thing, so….that’s a bummer.

The light is very bright and surprisingly doesn’t use that much battery life

Since I already had the Dewalt drill that uses the same batteries, I decided to purchase this flashlight for camping. It really holds its charge well. I took a spare battery with me but didn’t need it. I used it for probably about 3 hours, and when I returned home the battery was fully charged again in perhaps 10 minutes.

This light has been improved over previous years. The one I purchased in 2021 does not have the red light that so many people complained about it. Instead it has replaced the red light so that now there is a bright mode in a dimmer mode essentially what people were asking for. The versatility of this light with the flex head and it’s ability to stand alone or comfortably be held with one hand or even suspended via a built in hook are all desirable features. In addition the light is extremely bright. It can light up a room and outdoors it can easily trough a wide bright beam 100 feet. This is a great light.

I have a pile of DeWalt 20V Max batteries, so I bought this flashlight to try and get more use out of the batteries. The flashlight is very handy since its always sitting right next to my toolbox, its design makes it easy to grab, hold, and use, and I know I will always have a battery handy. The fact that it stands upright on the battery is a big plus. As others have noted, the brightness and beam are the two weaknesses for this flashlight. It is simply too bright for most situations where you are holding the flashlight close to your work. The reflected light is blinding. The first improvement DeWalt could make would be to provide more than one brightness level. A low and high, or low / medium / high would be a huge improvement. Second, the very tight beam is a problem in many workshop situations. If they made the beam adjustable, like the old school Mag Lights, it would be a fantastic feature. The trend with LED flashlights to make a laser-like tight beam is not very helpful for many situations. Sometimes a broad beam is much more valuable. Id gladly pay more money for the flashlight if it had those two features. Other than those two weaknesses, its a very useful flashlight.

It is actually what you would expect from Dewalt. A very good work, camping, game tracking, boating flashlight. It uses the same power pack as their hand tools. On a full charge it will last for hours. We use them for tracking game and always carry an extra battery pack. Never had to use it but easy to swap out if needed.

Great product at a fair price. We use it for household use, but I feel it would perform well in commercial use also.

Great spotlight, it seems like I was lucky to get the one that does have a dimmer setting and doesnt have the red light. I wish there was a way to know which one you were getting since other people have complained about getting a model that only has the very bright light. The only thing I did not like was the hight price considering you have to get the battery separately.
