> 3 dayI spent a considerable amount of time trying to decide among various soldering stations. I looked at just about every brand in this price range (less than $100) including several that were cheap Chinese knockoffs, Im really glad I went with the Hakko FX888D. It is substantial -- it is well made, the holder really holds the iron, it comes with both metal and sponge for cleaning the tip, it is accurate, it works great, and it heats up extremely fast. I love that it has a separate on-off switch, and the moment you turn it on, BAM, you see the temp zipping upwards. I chose to the model that came with 6 tips (1 on the unit itself, and 5 additional of various sizes). Im not sure I will use them all, but I like that I have them. And let me tell you, Hakko tips do not seem cheap! They are also extremely well made. The iron is ready to use as soon as you plug it in, but if you want to program it (I chose to use the 5 preset temperatures) It takes a few extra minutes to follow the instructions in order to do so. (The unit only has 2 buttons on front, not 3, so they must do double duty, and thats why you need to read the instructions) But other than that, it is a fabulous unit!

> 3 daySo much better than my old $20 solder station. melts solder so i dont have to hold the iron on a spot in worry that the component will overheat.

> 3 dayI love this soldering station. What really makes it great is the assortment of tips and the range of temperatures. I use the fine tips for soldering to pads on circuit boards and the chisel tips for soldering rails on my n-scale model railroad. Ive have a number of soldering irons and stations. This is the most versatile and best of the lot. I highly recommend it.

> 3 dayThis thing heats up FAST!!! Holds temp really well. Just exactly what you want in a soldering iron. I’d been eyeballing this station and had it in my cart for well over a year. Really glad I finally made the purchase. It really is top notch for guitar wiring.

> 3 dayI havent had it very long but I definitely tell that the temperature regulation is way better than my old soldering station. The tips are made of way better stuff that is far more oxidation resistant too. Very easy to use, just plug it in and turn it on.

> 3 dayIts a little difficult to program, and at one point the programming got so messed up that the tip wouldnt heat up and I had to reset the device.

> 3 daygood soldering iron, it heats up quickly and the programmable settings make using it a breeze once you learn how. the learning curve is a little complicated to program but I watched some youtube videos on how to use it. nice comfortable grip and the selections of tips provided are great, from fine circuit board work to heavy wire soldering. highly recommended if you do any soldering.
