Every once in a while, the duster would emit a clot of powder before sending out a fog of powder. And yes, I do mean fog. A couple of puffs from the duster left a cloud over my carpet that took 15 minutes to settle. You couldnt even see it on the carpeting, but it really cut down the bugs. After a day the dog went from scratching constantly to only doing it once or twice a day. I bet if I turned the duster right side up and tapped the cover a few times to clear the nozzle I could stop the clot I mentioned. You actually turn the duster upside down to spray the powder.

It decreased the amount of gnats dramatically after 2 applications. Helps to let soil dry out before applying.

Pros: DUSTER (this thing is the best and is worth getting this brand over others that dont provide one), got rid of all my bugs Cons: None I got this as I was having a roach problem (first-floor apartment in Florida) despite keeping an other wise very clean house. If I turned on the lights at 2 AM, I could sometimes see one or two on my countertops. Otherwise, I would just see their droppings and know they had been there. It was gross. And it was primarily in my kitchen (especially at the sink and dishwasher). I also had a fair amount of small weevils. They never got into any food, but at my peak, I was finding 5-10 per day on the walls or baseboards of my apartment wandering around. I have a dog and the problem was in my kitchen and on my countertops. I chose this product because its safe for everyone involved (except those pesky bugs!) and would be okay if some residue got into either my dogs food or my food. Plus I wanted to avoid chemicals in case my dog decided to go sniffing or lick the floor. I decided that I would strike a hard and fast first blow in this war on bugs. I generously lined my doors and window sill in case that was how they were getting in. I also had an outdoor closet that I know they were running through so that got a very heavy dose along the entire floor. Some advice says not to do more than a dusting because the bugs will just stay away instead of getting killed. Living in an apartment, Im not going to try to kill all the bugs that other residents might be bringing in. I just want them to stay away from me, so I was fine with a heavy coat. I also took the duster and hit everywhere that I had seen a roach. It was great for blasting all the back behind the dishwasher/oven/refrigerator as I couldnt pull those items out to get behind them. The duster can shoot several feet if needed. I also gave a nice dusting under the sink and in certain corners of the cabinetry that were walled off but could easily be accessed by bugs (I was pretty sure thats where they were coming from anyway). The duster is key. It allows you to get to places where the bugs can get but you cant. The first couple days, I found a few dead weevils (I saw many more of these so this was to be expected). It has been two weeks and no roach sightings or droppings. I could barely go a week without seeing at least one little dropping on my countertops. Its a miracle.

To be honest I am not all together sure what its actual use is, I just know I read it could get rid of fleas. It does do that temporarily. Should you be using it for that DO NOT use the spryer that comes with it. I did and it got everywhere, I literally had to clean it off of everything in my room. The better albeit harder way to do it is to find something to put it in and sprinkle it. When my sister used it she used a mason jar and poked holes on the lid. If you have a tiny flea problem this will solve it for a month or so, if you have a big flea problem you’re looking at it lasting a week at best. Again, I don’t know what it’s actually used for, so this review is based on what I used it for.

I put this around the perimeter of my home inside and out! I haven’t seen any crawling bugs in a LONG TIME! I am getting ready to move to a new location and I’ll definitely be using this product to get rid of AND prevent any unwanted critters from entering my home.

I cant really say how well this works as either an anti-caking agent, or as natural pest control (the reason I bought it). But I stuck some under the microscope and its the real deal. Lots of diatom bits.

I love gardening and have grown some veggies in my back yard, I found some annoying bugs like pill bugs, ants and fungus gnats etc., I did a lot research and dont feel like to use something chemical which may harm the environment and human body health, so I decided to get this food grade Diatomaceous Earth with the duster and yellow traps and they works well, the powder is extremely fine just like girls loose powder. After few time of this, I did see some dead bugs, just spray a layer on the surface of potted plant to prevent fungus gnats , stir into the soil dirt and spray it to wherever has shadow that bugs loves to hide in, or spray on the plant leaves for any kind of caterpillar. California recently has roaches problem, Ive seen roaches shown like 2 years ago, this year they gets bigger and more, sometimes I take walk in hot summer midnight and I see some roaches on the sidewalks, lawns, they gather together especially around the fallen rotten fruits from trees just outside your house and I saw some in my back yard too, after blowing the dust away I sprayed the powder into the gap between house and concrete, it did a great job killing all the bugs, I saw dead drying roached the next few days and they less shown, DE can be used in both dry and wet, I like to use it dry, Ill consider non-food grade for just insect prevention and food grade one for edible plant, so far I highly recommend this and remember wearing face mask and goggles to protect yourself when using DE.

This is a great product for keeping fungus gnats controlled. If infested, cover the top of soil completely with it about 1/4 inch and try to go at least two weeks before working into the soil. Bottom water to keep from disturbing.

About PF Harris

Our Story

Problem solving has a long heritage at PF Harris. In 1924, two years after its founding, the company tackled the Calvin Coolidge White House, which had been overrun for years by roaches and water bugs. Harris’s product was so successful in eliminating the scourge that he was described on the front page of the Washington Times as a "vermin slayer" who has just fought a decisive, winning battle with a horde of cockroaches which infested the lower regions of the Executive Mansion.

Over the course of the next few months Harris took “his final feast” to dozens of government buildings, including the Senate Office Building, the Department of Justice, the Supreme Court and Walter Reed Hospital. Success followed success: Each superintendent of the various buildings was highly satisfied with the results.

The company today stays nimble enough to respond to changing market demands, leading the way in the development of numerous products, including natural insect repellents like Swamp Gator and Swamp Gnat which repel biting insects without using deet. Beyond the products it sells, Harris helps customers find easy and economical solutions to pest problems through helpful labeling, instructive videos and personal advice.

It’s a brand with a reliable past and an innovative future. PF Harris is America’s oldest EPA-registered company. With more than 55 products, the company provides solutions to treat everything from roaches and bed bugs to scorpions and stink bugs.
