Greater than one weekI was suffering with my kit lens as most of my photography is at night indoors. A kit lens does not allow me to capture moving kids and people in soft indoor lights. This lens works amazingly well for that purpose. Just I have to use my feet to get people in the right frame. One issue is that I miss the wide-angle of the kit lens at 18mm when I try to get group photos in a small room. But that is a different (and unrelated) story. The best portrait lens you can get in a small budget for the DX-format.

> 3 dayLet me say that this lens is very reasonable when it comes to price. Especially for those of us who are beginners. Definitely the one prime lens you should have in your collection. The pictures are just amazing. I currently using it on a Nikon D3100 and let me say that I love the results that it has given me. For a while there I was split between the 35 and 50, and after doing some extensive research and asking a lot of more experienced photographer, they all said the 35 is the way to go. After all the focal length is that of a 52.5mm if your using the D3100. In addition the ability to get that aperture of 1.8 is such a plus in low light situations. I would highly recommend as a GREAT prime lens.

> 3 dayGreat bokeh at f/1.8, and you can shoot handheld in available light. If you step down to f/5.6 or smaller the lens is very sharp.

> 3 dayDont let anyone tell you kit zooms for the new Nikons suck: they dont. They take perfectly good, sharp pictures and have VR.
