PlayStation Vita Memory Card 64GB (PCH-Z641J)

Im very satisfied with my memory card. I believe that if youre going to own a PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) you owe it to yourself to invest in the 64GB or 32GB memory card. I think it goes without saying that the price point on these memory cards doesnt properly reflect the current market price for similarly sized ones by competitors, but with Sony making these proprietary... theres really no choice is there? Being a PlayStation Plus member, and receiving so many free & cool monthly PS Vita games via the service, I was hindered by the measly 4GB memory card that comes with the PS Vita. I can now load up my PS Vita with the games Ive been anxiously wanting to keep loaded on my system, without having to constantly delete it so that I can play another title. For those wondering, the imported 64GB memory card works great in the North American versions of the handheld. Its simply only available in Japan, for whatever reason.

The price was a little annoying. Setting that aside, being the only way of expanding the PS Vitas storage, it was necessary. Im probably using less than 10% now. But, Im happier that I have that extra 90% to play with than having to worry about, What do I delete? later. The other day, I just bought 6 flash drives of the same capacity at the same price as this one card. But Im okay with that because I only have to buy this card one time.

Im going to start my review off by being very frank: If you are an avid PS Vita gamer, dont cheap out and just get this card. No, the memory card is not region locked and is usable on any PS Vita, so no excuses. When youre sitting on the 1GB of internal stock memory that came with the Vita, the amount of decent games you can play within that memory budget becomes little to none. Its worth it in the long run. Yes, its expensive. I could go on and on about how I and everyone else hate Sonys model of proprietary memory on the Vita, but Im going to refrain from doing that and try to keep my review focused on the actual card itself Now that I finally have my memory card, I was able to shake the dust off my Vita that I never played because again, only had 1GB of memory to work with. Ive since began downloading some of the free PS+ games I accumulated for the Vita over the last few years of being a PS+ member as well as some other digital titles that I actually paid for. Lastly, dont worry about any data you already have on your internal memory card. After youve inserted your new memory card and powered on your Vita, it will prompt you to transfer your data from the internal storage to your new 64GB storage without you needing to do anything. I included an image in my review showing you the data transfer in progress. I can now play my JRPGs in peace. Shouldnt have to worry about memory for a while now.

A few things to understand. 1. It’s a 64gb memory card. 2. It is for the Vita. 3. It holds a lot of games, taking into consideration that most games for the Vita are 1 to 3 GB. (Sometimes less depending on what you enjoy.) 4. It isnt cheap. 5. And it is a Sony product which is why it isn’t cheap. So to the people that are giving the product a 1 star rating, stop. The price is what it is. Go complain on Sonys message boards if you dont like it. Now back to the review. Taking that all in, you need to ask yourself only one question. What price would you pay to have just about an unlimited amount of space? I was previously using a 16 GB card. Which could hold 3 to 4 Vita games depending. (Borderlands 2 takes up a lot of space to install) Now I can say with certainty that the 64 GB version can hold at least 32 games, and still have 13 GB left on standby. The standby memory has more than my 16 GB card had before adding anything to it. (Remember that the cards have coding which takes away from the storage) Meaning that the 64 GB card actually has 59 GB worth of free space – and my 16 GB had only 12.5 GB of free space. Although in this day and age, where industry standard should have carried over to a game console like the PS Vita, sadly enough, Sony claims that this is supposed to stop Copyright Infringement. No, its just another way for Sony to charge a much greater price on a card that is strictly proprietary to their PS Vita system, instead of making complete sense like they did for the PS3 and allow an industry standard memory card to fit. Either way, bottom line is, if you want to play more games via download, you need more memory. If not, then buy the PS Vita games on their cards and use the extra memory for save game features.

To this date I am still puzzled as to why Sony has not yet offered a 64 GB Vita card for North America. The free games on PS Plus have been coming in fast and furious lately and I wasnt really down with the hassle of removing games just to make room to try out new ones. This is already well documented but yes, this card works perfectly fine in a North American PS Vita system. I wasted no time loading up the card and have encountered zero issues. The price that Sony charges for these things is exorbitant but having that 64 GB capacity goes a long way for convenience and peace of mind. Now if Sony will just give up the whole custom format deal and switch their next Vita successor to a standard memory card format...

The space vs. price trade off is debatable. Yes you do get a ton of storage space for games, videos, etc and should technically never needed another memory card again (unless you download EVERYTHING). But the damn thing costs half of what the console itself it does. Plus you have to have it imported and wait days or week or even months depending on the vendor/shipping methods. As with any Memory Card, actual available space is 59GB NOT 64GB. But considering the other options 8GB (standard in most retailers), 16GB (not as common to find), and the 32GB (extremely rare to find, did SONY stop making these? ran out? emptied out available supply? did not expect people to buy these?), cant complain. The memory card is the released in Japan only 64GB card (theres a Hon Kong version floating around, not sure if that one is legit), BUT its universal and region free and will work on any PS Vita. I have a US 3G/Wifi Vita and the memory card worked without a hitch. I had an 8GB and ran out of space within a week. I tried to get a 32GB at local retailers and no one had it. Searched online and the prices where insane, almost about the same for a 32GB as it was with the 64GB. As of the time of review, I have 13 apps, 12 Vita games, 8 PS Ones, and 9 PSP games downloaded and installed and still have 32.9GB left. Pros - Space. 59GB NOT 64GB (As is the case with any memory card). - Universal and region free, plug it in the memory card slot and start saving - Minimal packaging. Cons - Price. REALLY Expensive, anywhere between $100.00 to $200.00 depending on the vendor. But considering youll have enough space for everything, pretty much debatable. - Packaging not in English. This is more so in case the card doesnt work or something goes wrong. But you can always return to vendor within the refund period.

Works as expected. Shipped in two days. Prior to contrary reviews, This product DOES fit the American model of the vita. Has 64 gb of space, as advertised. Yeah, its a little overpriced, but thats life and you just have to deal with it. I feel like you should have known before buying the console what storage and games would cost you. Not just say, Ooo a console! and expect everything for it handed to you. I dont think you should downgrade a product based on price. You knew the price before you clicked buy and YOU chose to pay it. This is not a necessity, but is nice to have. Especially if you subscribe to ps plus.

Im so happy to have finally bought this larger card. Even though mine is pretty much full, its still so much better than the alternatives or only 32gb. Yes I wish it was cheaper and yes I wish Sony did like Nintendo and used a standard memory format so it would be less expensive, more compatible, and easier to find. But they didnt, so you might as well get this since its only slightly more than a 32 anyway. With ps plus giving us so many games this is great to have. I kept ,y smaller ones still but only use them for some collections like god of war and final fantasy x2, etc. everything else fits on this one 64gb card which is nice. I may pull the trigger on another 1-2 of these, especially when I get the vita tv.

Well, Ill guess Ill write my review for the 64 gigabyte memory card. Albeit over priced this is a must have for a Vita owners. First off you get 59GB not 64GB but thats just how it works. If youre worried because its imported it does work on American Vita models. Just to give you an idea of how much space you truly get I currently have: 1 PSone game, 4 Minis, 9 PSP games, 23 Downloaded games, plus large size patches for multiple games and I still have 35GB free. The only real downside is the price $100 is too much but, when you look at it the 32 Gigabyte is 70 bucks for $30 more youre doubling the space that and considering the 32 used to cost $100 its a nice deal.
