It arrived ahead of schedule, and has the look and feel of the classic genesis controller. My only issue is there isnt any instruction on how to turn off the controller when youre done playing. Im still trying to figure that out. Other than that, its a lot of fun.

The product page and images haven’t been updated yet, but this is the new v2 version of the 2.4Ghz Genesis controller. This is indicated on the box and the Genesis and USB receivers having “V2” printed on them. The one I received has one or two very small scratches if the light hits it in the right way, but no big deal. I have an older Bluetooth model of the same controller so I’ll compare it to that. I assume the 2.4Ghz v1 is identical to the Bluetooth model, which is out of production. In the image, the Bluetooth is on the left and the 2.4Ghz v2 is on the right. The v2 has darker plastics with a more pronounced texture, so it’s more reflective in the light. This is how I noticed the tiny scratches. The L and R buttons have a shallower click to them than the older one. They don’t feel all that different but there is visibly less travel. The main 6 buttons have deeper engravings so they’re easier to read, but otherwise look and feel identical. The home and select buttons are gray and engraved now rather than black with printed icons. The d-pad is identical. It still has Micro USB rather than picking up USB-C from the Big6. In short, it’s just a slightly updated version of the v1. As I understand it, there may be more macros currently supported than the v1, though Retro-Bit plans to bring parity to the v1s. The only debatable downgrade is the shallower L and R buttons but since those weren’t on original Genesis controllers, I doubt many will care one way or another.

This is a great controller and it feels almost exactly like my original 6-button Genesis pads, but unfortunately, it’s almost useless for the “Sega Genesis Classics” game on the Switch. The problem is the buttons aren’t mapped to mirror the the original 6-button controller, they map to a Nintendo style A, B, X, Y, L, R layout. You can’t “customize” the controls in any of the Classics games either, so there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s probably great on the Genesis or a retron Genesis system, but do not buy this for that “Sega Classics” Switch game, you’ll be highly disappointed. 4 stars for the quality. 1 docked for it not being clearly stated in the description that it can’t be used as an apples-to-apples version of the original 6-button controller.

So far so good. The controller works well, although it does feel a little cheap. PAIRING was an issue until I figured out that the instructions are incorrect. After you plug the receiver into the consoles port and press the start button on your controller (turning it on), you need to PRESS & HOLD THE SYNC BUTTON ON THE RECEIVER AND THEN PRESS THE START BUTTON ON YOUR CONTROLLER. The biggest plus on this controller (which Ive been waiting on) is that since it has the extra Sega Genesis receiver, you can use the controller on your original Sega Genesis. BUT, most people dont know this, you can also use this receiver on your Retron 5 AND your original Atari 2600!!! Yep, thats right. You can now play your original Atari 2600 wirelessly. The original Atari 2600 controller ports are the same as the Sega Genesis which means that you can use Genesis controllers on your Atari (which is how I play my vintage Atari games). I tested this wireless controller on both consoles and sure enough, it works great. Happy gaming!

I like the design as it is very similar to the original. But the D-Pad doesnt work, the other button work just fine.

Love this controller. Works perfectly with my Genesis mini and my original Genesis model 1. I updated the firmware for both receivers before I started. One thing to note is that on the Genesis mini you would normally hold the start button down for a few seconds to get out of a game your playing to get to the Genesis mini menu. With this controller you can just hit the select button which is easier. If you use project lunar with your Genesis mini the games that you use a different core with retroarch you have to still hold the start button down like you would on the stock controller. Overall I would highly recommend this controller as it enables you to properly play some games like Street fighter 2 and mortal kombat which use more than 3 buttons. Also it cleans up my room since I dont have to have the Genesis/mini pulled out so my wired controller can reach. Now it sits clean on the tv stand and the wireless works perfectly. I have not noticed any additional lag or anything. I have attached a picture of the wireless controller next to my original 6 button Sega controller for reference. Its pretty much the same size. I cant see myself using the 3 button controller anymore after this purchase.

Very high quality and comfortable. One of the buttons brings up them menu on the sega genesis mini, so you dont have to with those extra few seconds for the menu to show up, which is good for guys like me with bad backs who are trying to forget thier woes with a good game, And just wanna relax.

I dont recommend this if youre buying it for use with the Switch like I did. I have the Sega Classics collection and it is pretty useless for those games. There is no in-game button mapping option and you cant map this controller through the Switch settings either. This means your stuck with the crappy layout for that collection. There are other Sega Ages games I wanted to buy but it appears I wont be able to properly map those either. The C and Z buttons are mapped to ZL and RL which makes the standard Sega 6 button layout impossible through the in-game mapping . Whats the point of using this if I cant set it up like the original Sega 6 button controller? I was going to still give it 3 stars but theres a couple other annoying issues. I turned off my Switch (not sleep mode but completely off) and the USB receiver LED kept flashing. This was 45 minutes after I turned it off. Thats just stupid. I hope Im missing something here? Did I do something wrong or does this thing just keep searching until its unplugged? Also the location of the pairing button. Really brilliant idea to locate that in a spot where the switch is blocking access to it. This controller could have been perfect. Such a shame.

This is a very good controller. The d-pad and buttons feel great. The only downside is that the controller is not as comfortable to hold as the 8BitDo M30, but if you’re not familiar with that controller, I don’t think you’d be disappointed by the Retro-Bit controller.

I had low expectations when I ordered, but Im in love with this controller! Syncs easily, decent battery life, works with so many different consoles. Side note: Sega Genesis and Master System controllers are backwards compatible with the Atari 2600. I tested this wireless controller on my Atari 2600 and YES! It works! Super neat!
