the smell reminds me of Boraxo soap in elementary school. Pretty good soap, but Im liking VDHs Luxury soap for its fantastic smell.

This stuff smells like Bay Rum without the Boozy Old Man feel about it. It lathers like no other soap I have tried to date and like it so much, that Ill be buying the aftershave too. The seller was great, it came in very quickly and you get a lot of it for the price, so its well worth it. If your into wet shaving, give it a try, its worth it.

This product will produce an adequate lather after a lot of work. However the scent is overwhelming with similarities to industrial antibacterial hand soap. Protection from the razor is minimal. Not recommended.

I know the price seems high but, its easy to lather, protects your skin and personally it brings back memories of simpler times. This is a triple milled soap that will easily last 6 months with daily use, and I happen to like the White Ceramic bowl and cover. BE FOREWARNED YOULL EITHER LOVE OR HATE THE AROMA, BUT IT LATHERS GREAT, MY MAINSTAY SOAP !!!

This uses a little more water than expected to lather up. But that is not a bad thing! I wouldnt use for travel as the lid does not secure. This is part of my soap rotation.

This was exactly what I was looking for: Original Tabac formula with tallow in a milk glass bowl. The company recently announced that they were going vegan in their formulation so I wanted this right away. The shipping in the Southwest US was received within 2 days. Very pleased. I love this traditional fragrance. FYI, the milk glass bowl doesn’t make this suitable for traveling, but was not purchased with that in mind.

Im reviewing the older Tallow based formula and sometimes you can still find it in stock. I have not tried the new formula without tallow (though most reviews say the non-tallow lathers easier and is slicker but not as protective as the tallow base). I grew up in the 50s and the initial reaction to the scent is that it reminds me of grandmas purse. This is a common description that it smells like an old ladys handbag. I dont know exactly what that smell comes from (Jergens lotion or something that grandma would have carried in her purse?). But its not offensive at all. It just doesnt immediately strike you as a manly scent. Fortunately the scent fades quickly as you start to lather - and what a lather! It builds quickly and easily into a thick and creamy protective lather. The scent is not annoying at all on your face or brush while shaving and doesnt linger after the shave. The feel does linger post shave and it is a very good feeling on your face. Skin feels smooth and soft and hydrated for a long time after. Its a classic for a good reason - it really is an exceptionally good shaving soap.
