Smells like the inside of an old ladys purse. Seriously, its like a combination of moth balls and rose water. I couldnt even bring myself to lather with it because the smell nauseated me so badly. YMMV, of course.

Ive been shaving with a straight razor for about four months now. I decided to step up from my drugstore soap and try Tabac, and Im glad I did. Let me say that I am not an expert, but theses are my observations. First, the ceramic container is very plain and no-nonsense. The lid is plastic - a good thing, as it will be dropped because it isnt secured by anything. The odor isnt offensive, but I dont like it. It reminds me of that pink liquid soap in public restrooms. Despite the smell, I still like the soap, and Im getting used to the scent. The scent does fade after a rinse and can be covered by your aftershave. For my first shave, I mixed the soap with some water and lathered in a bowl. Good foam, but as I said, Im not an expert. My first pass, with the grain, was pleasant...nothing to rave about. The soap proved itself on the second pass. After putting on another coat of suds, I began my against-the-grain pass. I felt none of the irritation I do with my cheap soap. My razor also didnt skip across my neck whiskers. This soap is very comfortable for that skin-close shave. I give it four stars because of the scent.

Shaving soap. Solid .not soft. Lathers but no substance. Prefer conn foam. Or Art of Shaving soap.

Great soap, I like the smell it dose have a slight scent of fresh powder also a smell like something you would smell at the barber shop. I can rub my face later in the day and get the nice refreshing smell. Nice ceramic tub feels like a classic soap. Slickness is pretty good lather is great. I would buy again and recommend. Smells great and long lasting! Ive had it nearly a year. I only shave weekly at best, but i havnt ran out yet, and love the ceramic bowl.

I have used a lot of shaving soaps and Tabac is definitely the best I have ever used. The brush loads very easily and quickly getting it ready for either a wonderful bowl or face lather. The lather that Is produced is slick, thick, and does not dissipate at all. I am definitely hooked on Tabac!!!

Ive heard you either love it or hate it ... count me in the former. Cant quite place the smell, other than everything you remember about the old barber shops rolled into one. Ill definitely continue to buy this one. drf

This shaving soap is amazing! I heard numerous people online talk about this soap and how easy it is to lather (with a brush) and decided to give it a try. It seems like it will last forever and it smells amazing! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a shaving soap!

I bought this soap 1.5 years ago, and Im almost finished with the puck. Its a terrific soap with easy lathering and slickness to it. It even works well with hard water. The soap is a bit thirsty, but performance wise I feel its my gold standard on how shaving soaps should perform. My only drawback is the scent seems to be love it or hate it. Its scented like a tobacco flower(not tobacco) so it smells very floral(like clubman talcum powder) and leather. Its definitely a polarizing scent, but I dont think its that bad. It reminds me of the old barbershops I use to go to as a kid. An added bonus is the glass jar it comes in is quite nice. The puck was/is quite hard so I recommend using a stiff boar brush, but since the puck has lasted such a long time, I feel this soap is a good value. Overall Im quite satisfied. Ill probably buy the refill puck soon.
