I havent finished it yet but so far, this is my least favorite Pokemon game. I dont know how they could have went from Pokemon X that I LOVED to this. *It is soooo slow. People talk to me for forever and then I do one thing and they come up and talk to me for forever again. I cant just play the game! Also, the screen goes black for a little too long sometimes when the picture changes, and the battles are slow. *There are no gyms. There are trials. Renaming things wouldnt be so bad but the trials arent even a challenge. I feel like the whole game is just one big walk down a twisting route, where trainers get progressively harder to defeat and some trainers give you things. I dont feel like Im making progress. *The map really confuses me. It may not be a big deal for some people but I would get lost on the original maps. I guess thats why they place flags to tell you where to go next. *Too many things you can only do once a day. I feel like Im playing a free download sometimes. *A lot of things that I liked about Pokemon X, like the clothes, and the mini-games where I can play with my Pokemon are lame in this game. I can buy clothes but they dont change every day, they dont seem as cute, and I cant even see the hats! I can still pet and feed my Pokemon, but I cant play with them. *I cant sit in chairs. I cant even walk on top of them. Im used to being able to do that. I also cant look inside trash cans. *There is an A bubble on top of pokeballs... For some reason, this just makes me feel dumb... or that the creators think Im dumb. The only reason this game is somewhat enjoyable is because I am addicted to Pokemon in general. If anyone thinks they can change my opinion, please be my guest. -Katelyn

Not too much water eh IGN? Basically GameFreak took all of our hopes and dreams for Pokemon and put them into this game. It is the biggest leap in terms of quality between any generation of Pokemon. Weve gone to a more 3D view point with moving camera angles. We got rid of the gyms and put in trials instead (Thank goodness!), and we have a wonderful new setting. The new Pokemon are a lot of fun, plus we have all the familiar faces as well. The menus have been improved and streamlined - which is a HUGE plus. One could consider it a minor improvement yet it makes the usability and functionality so much easier, especially in battle. Also, having the weakness indicators when battling familiar Pokemon is fun too. Though I would have liked if this didnt come up until you captured the type you are fighting. In other words, not showing how your moves affect the opponent unless you have previous captured one of the same and entered it fully into the Pokedex. But small nitpick there. Its truly as near perfect as a Pokemon game can be and is what I consider one of the best games of 2016. I actually enjoy this more than FF15.

This game takes place in the newer region of Alola. It introduces new mechanics and improves on gameplay that made previous games feel tedious such as grinding for levels to fight in gyms or going out of your way to fight against the newest villainous group. However, the story feels incomplete and some sections of the game are empty spaces making it look like a mouth with missing teeth. The game is better than previous generations and with Poké Rides you finally are not forced to teach members of your party moves in order to explore the world. I had rated the game before playing Ultra Sun, its still a great game even though it now feels like the light-version of Ultra Sun/Moon. I would still recommend it if you want a game you can replay and if you are looking for a short game during a break.

Ive been a fan since Gen 1, but its fun to see what new features / changes they make every generation. Pros: The graphics seem to have moved entirely away from the old everythings a grid format. Makes the world seem newer. I also like that they brought back character customization / fashion stuff. Though this will show up in the cons section, I do like the call for help mechanic. It shakes up the battle system and makes it feel a bit more organic. And it can help with the leveling. My favorite feature, though, is the removal of the HMs and bike and replacing them with the pokémon ride system. You now get to ride around on various pokémon to accomplish the same results without having to carry an HM slave with you or wasting move slots on your team members. Cons: Theres a lot of tutorial-ism in the game. Though I do sometimes like how the map has a marker showing you where to go (and this certainly makes putting the game down and picking it up later more doable), the game sometimes bashes you over the head with reminders of what youve gotta do next or (in one case) are in the progress of doing. Then again, it does seem like games are generally moving in that direction. My only other complaint is the one mentioned above: call for help. While it shakes things up and makes things feel more organic and all that, it can be tedious as hell. As in the pokémon can chain call for help and do so on the same turn you murder their friend, making it impossible to catch the pokémon or end the battle without retreating or AoE moves.

I was hesitant to pick up Sun and Moon after the massive disappointment that was X and Y, especially after seeing that they suffered from one of the exact same issues--very few new pokemon with the new generation. Some might say that there are too many pokemon already, but I disagree. Were especially lacking in pokemon of the new Fairy type, and Sun and Moon did very little to remedy that. But I pre-ordered the game despite my misgivings, and honestly? I wasnt disappointed. It definitely has a few rough edges, but overall this was well worth my time and money. Lets start with the worst aspect, the graphics. Namely, the models of the pokemon themselves. Now, I have a degree in 3D Animation, I have some idea of whats going on regarding the models and Im sure thats exasperating my issues. But holy crap Game Freak, your models look like bootleg plastic toys crapped out of a low quality 3D Printer. Throw some texture maps onto your models, the 3DS can handle it, even with the crappy shader. Please just. A texture map, a specularity map, something! The models are physically painful to watch for me, moving like stiff jointed action figures and looking like a four year olds idea of color theory slapped on a pokemon shape. A pokemon that particularly suffers from this is Dhelmise, which is an anchor+ship wheel with seaweed clinging to it. The seaweed looks like green paint and takes an otherwise cool design and makes it hard to handle having the thing on the screen. The world-map models however are beautiful, and the in-game cutscenes are beautifully rendered with the only flaw being the unnerving never-ending stare plastered on the player characters face. A less severe flaw: With the move to Generation 7 it seems that we have lost Super Training and the foot in the door it brought to the competitive world of the series. While the Super Training Minigame wasnt the best thing, it was a way for players to interact with their team on a level besides shouting orders at them. Now for the redeeming qualities: Bugs: While no pokemon game is free from its share of glitches, unlike X and Y, Sun and Moon dont drag the frame-rate down on my old 3DS when Im in a battle. This is an A+++++ improvement. Plot: Easily the best plot since Pokemon Black and Pokemon White, the story is easy to follow and kid-friendly, but just intense and thought provoking enough to engage the older players as well. The biggest problem is how hand-holdy and railroady the game is, assuming that the player must be a two year old who must be spoonfed everything to be able to understand it and know where to go. Per usual and despite all requests otherwise, Game Freak has still not put in a way to skip the tutorial if youve already played. Post-Game: It exists! And is actually quite fun, and brings back a surprising cameo character. Welcome back from Emerald! Neutral things: The Poke Pelago- its a fun gimmick and nifty idea that I hope they expand on in the future, but theres a very very large disparity between resource availability and things available. While trying to build your islands you are constantly hurting for Poke Beans [the special currency for this section of the game] which are also used in Pokemon Refresh, the replacement of Pokemon Amie. This means you often have to choose between bonding with your pokemon, or spending the beans to make it marginally easier to get more beans. Pokemon Refresh is fun and cute, but with the lack of resources it quickly becomes exhausting, and unlike in Pokemon Amie, there arent even minigames you can play to increase your Pokebean stock! Money scarcity- Ive been playing pokemon games for as long as I can remember. I have beaten and owned literally every main series game, and most of the side games, and I have NEVER had the issues with keeping a healthy supply of pokeyen that I had in Moon. An Amulet Coin or a special promotional pokemon with the special move Happy Hour is literally required to have anything resembling a healthy supply of pokeyen. New designs- Are painfully hit or miss. Of the ~70 new pokemon+formes introduced, I like maybe 30 of the designs, and the rest I honestly wish I could throw into a lava pit. I dont have a single one that Im just neutral on. Im hoping the series continues in this direction, but seeing what Ive seen for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, I dont have very high expectations.

In my opinion, Sun and Moon have done a lot of things right, but ruin it by forcing you through what seems like a game-length tutorial. Ive been playing since RBY, so this is very frustrating - to the point I completely stopped playing for a week and wouldnt have continued if my GF didnt keep trying to get me to. I would give this game 3 stars, but my GF loves it and doesnt mind anything Ive griped about, so she would give it 5. Overall 4 stars from us. P.S. Ive beaten the game now and restarted (custom starters run), and its much better now that I know what to expect. Its not as grating as it used to be.

Its been several generations of pokemon and 20 years later since the original gameboy games but the formula hasnt changed much. You still go catch monsters, train them up, then prove youre the best. This new iteration however is in my opinion the best installment yet. The layout is simple and informative, for both casual and hardcore gamers alike. There are tons of new pokemon, as well as old pokemon with new forms,. The quality of the game is great as usual. It even changes up the pacing of the game by replacing the usual gyms with trials. Theres plenty of new and exciting content, and its all using 3D models now. There are a few downsides, but not many. Cons - Super training (for training EVs) is gone - 3D feature is unavailable, even on the 3DS - The old online connectivity has been replaced with a really confusing and lackluster Festival Plaza. It works, but its harder to navigate and find friends.

Aesthetically pleasing? Yes. You stop being excited about how great it looks after playing it for a couple of hours and seeing all the flaws. Seriously, there is no sense of accomplishment to this game period. Whoever developed it mustve just went, Hey, lets make this game easy for idiots. Dont bother grinding levels, you dont need it. The game tells you where to go and what to do. Cut scenes galore. I am also really irritated with how it tells you even what moves to USE in battle. Its always been about trial and error, and memorizing from experience how to battle. Besides isnt the whole point to pokemon to become a master trainer? You cant grow as a person much like you cant get better at a videogame if everything is handed to you on a silver platter. Now, the call for help feature....is such a tedious waste of time. Most people are not going to farm shinys for hours on end. And, as far as I can see, thats the only purpose it serves because I can kill everything just fine. It just eats up more of my day when my pokeball fails and another one drops from the sky and tells you that you cant throw it if two are on the field. If the island challenges were a little more difficult, you might actually get some satisfaction from obtaining a z-crystals. The game even gives you dire hits to waste on totem pokemon if you suck bad enough to need it. Your rival in the game is a joke and Gary would be ashamed of him. I read reviews of performance issues but I have a New 3ds so I cant really bi*ch about that. Festival plaza is super pointless other than the daily drawing where you can win an item. Poke pelago is actually implemented seemingly well. Honestly, I think this game is for children only. Teens and adults that are long time fans of the series are going to have much to gripe about. I see a lot of 5* reviews and just assume those people must be the ones you see at work or school that smile all the time and never get gloomy. Overall, its an okay game with untapped potential. I think its definitely a game people should try though your mileage may vary.

Ive been playing this game for a little over a week now and I love it. Obviously I havent finished it, I play casually when I have some time, but so far it is great. Im leaving a review for some notes about the game, for people wondering if theyd want this newest one. For starters, youre not earning badges in this one, youre completing Trials on 4 different islands, its different from the others and I really like it. There is virtually no 3D in this game. Apparently in just one small portion of it, a mini-game of sorts, it is used, but in regular game play and in battles there is no 3D. I like that, because honestly I rarely use the 3D, but I can see how this would be a deal breaker. I feel like the different battles, parts of trials, and fighting the Kahuna are broken up so in between you train and level your team, and you dont have to grind like crazy before you get to the next gym. It feels more like a story rather than you just running from town to town to battle gyms. Theyve changed a few other things and I really like it, they made it different enough yo justify the purchase, but not so much that it doesnt feel like a Pokemon game.

Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon will launch in the US November 18th, 2016 exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Embark on a new adventure as a Pokemon Trainer and catch, battle, and trade all-new Pokemon on the tropical islands of a new Region and become a Pokemon Champion!
