Im very pleased with Tabac. This is an outstanding option for those of you with hard water, as I have. According to my local municipality, we average about 130 mg/L total hardness over the course of the year, and one of my biggest challenges to shaving has been learning to get a good lather with hard water. For those of you new to wet shaving, a proper lather is absolutely critical to getting a quality shave. Ive tried other products, including Proraso and The Real Shaving Company creams, and Colonel Conk and Taylor of Old Bond Street sandalwood soaps. Each of those products has had a learning curve where I would have to determine the right amount of water to have in the brush, the right pressure to use, and perhaps a few other variables to getting a good lather- not true when Ive traveled and shaved in soft water conditions. At my house, Tabac is a no fuss product. Soak the brush, put a few sprinkles of water on the soap while you shower, then shake the brush out, load it for about 15 seconds (upside down), and face lather. This stuff really whips up into a thick and slick lather that the razor glides right through. This is also a pretty big chunk of soap that is going to last you a long time- consider this when you see the price. As for the scent, its nice. I would describe it as pleasant and relaxing, a little floral note to it. My wife absolutely loves the smell of it, and thats what matters. Theres always pharmacy shelves full of Axe body spray for those of you who demand conformity to a manly scent. I dry my brush on a rack in the bathroom, and the entire bathroom has the scent of this soap when you walk in. Smells awesome in there. This is not a good option for traveling as this is a big honking glass jar of soap, so I might have to pick up the stick version of this and give it a try. Otherwise, very pleased and highly recommended!

Ive been shaving with a straight razor for about four months now. I decided to step up from my drugstore soap and try Tabac, and Im glad I did. Let me say that I am not an expert, but theses are my observations. First, the ceramic container is very plain and no-nonsense. The lid is plastic - a good thing, as it will be dropped because it isnt secured by anything. The odor isnt offensive, but I dont like it. It reminds me of that pink liquid soap in public restrooms. Despite the smell, I still like the soap, and Im getting used to the scent. The scent does fade after a rinse and can be covered by your aftershave. For my first shave, I mixed the soap with some water and lathered in a bowl. Good foam, but as I said, Im not an expert. My first pass, with the grain, was pleasant...nothing to rave about. The soap proved itself on the second pass. After putting on another coat of suds, I began my against-the-grain pass. I felt none of the irritation I do with my cheap soap. My razor also didnt skip across my neck whiskers. This soap is very comfortable for that skin-close shave. I give it four stars because of the scent.

Tabac is a solid performer. Classic scent with slick lather that is easy to produce.

As a shaving soap it lathers very easy and provides plenty of lather for multiple passes. Lather is rich and provides a very slick surface for the DE razor. The only thing I don’t like is the scent. The reviews that note that this smells like an old lady are absolutely correct. I think this is something that you may either love or hate.

I will be brief. This product has many detailed reviews so I will just say this shave soap is the best I have come across. The lather, the scent and the lubrication are all first class. This will definitely be a repeat purchase for me. Try it and you will see.

Great lather. Easy to make. Subtle scent. Cant understand why some people hate the scent. Whats to hate? Its hardly there.

I now understand why so many people use this as their go-to shaving soap, excellent and easy lather, super smooth for each razor pass.

Was introduced to Tabac by my first wife, and my current wife is happy she did. This container goes a long way and is well worth the price.

I have been using this soap for a while and really like it. It lathers well and smells great but thats subjective.
