First comment: Typical Amazon Quality Service. So far WD4TB Pro bare hard drive is absolutely quiet, vibrationless, super easy to initialize then format to ExFAT and only slightly warm to the touch. Hooked it up with a Unitek IDE/SATA to USB C 3.0 Adapter for now before mounting in stand alone case. Been using WD drives for a number of years so expect this new one will be as durable as the last.

Over the past 2 years I have bought 8 of the WD Red Pro and 4 of the WD purple drives off Amazon. Of the 12 in total only one has been DOD. Checking my cameras the one that was dead on delivery was found to have been chucked 10ft across my porch to the door by the Amazon driver. My advice to you, make sure you can be home to greet the driver and you will have some great drives.

If you own a WD NAS I strongly suggest you get the WD red pros not the Seagate IronWolf series due to potential formatting and pin voltage issues. Great hard drive and great reliability for the price if you live that long that is.

Drives are fine as long as they are consistently running, but they get noisy going from sleep mode and back. I am using in a personal raid 1 archive and they work great, but these drives are made more for a server array.

Great capacity for the price, and I’ve trusted WD hard drives for almost 30 years, so I’m confident that the quality is a strong feature. The ONLY thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is that the drive is very noisy, like those old HDs from “back in the day”. I’m not using it in an environment where the noise matters, so no big deal, but if you need a quiet hard drive, THIS IS NOT THE ONE FOR YOU.

The price for these was GREAT, I bought a diskless WD PR4100 to put these in and built a 72TB storage device for about half the retail price of a prebuilt unit..

Ordered four of the 18tb drives. Two arrived in opened retaped Newegg boxes with the drives loosely in the boxes and two arrived in what appears to be from WD. See pic…. Hope the two from Newegg don’t have problems in the future from be banged around…. I know there was just an issue with Newegg reselling returned/defective merchandise. These look as if they qualify……
