> 3 dayOn my gaming rig the magician regularly benchmarks this drive at 2.2 gig a second sustained. This is the fastest and most reliable drive on my market in my opinion. Im not sure about short bursts in read/write speeds, but having a sata 2 interface (with a 3 gig/sex max transfer rate) shouldnt hurt performance. With sufficient memory you can shut off the windows page file, and I was very impressed with the overall gaming performance increase. Whats more, I received this on special, which made it even better. If your looking for a SSD and you see this one on sale, dont hesitate.

> 3 dayWhen I connected this SSD with an SATA to USB cable it was not recognized, on two computers. I verified that the cable and computers were not at fault with another spare hard drive that I had on hand. This isnt my first rodeo either, I have two Samsung 840 SSDs in use. I called Samsung support, they had no advice to offer other than to send it back. Amazon gets 5 stars for the ease with which they ordered a replacement and no charge return shipping of the defective unit. Ill be back to report the results when I get the replacement. Update: I received the replacement unit today, and it had the same symptom. Neither of my computers would recognize it. This time I googled Samsung 850 SSD not recognized and found I was not alone. There must be hundreds of hits, all with the same issue. It tums out the drive isnt formatted, so a computer wont see it until you use the Disc Management tool to format it. Nothing I could find anywhere from Samsung mentioned this. Youd think it would be prominently displayed somewhere in the instructions, but theres no mention of it. So I formatted the drive, and the computer finally could see it. I then loaded the Samsung Wizard software for the data transfer. The Wizard couldnt find the SSD. I was ready to call it quits but as a last resort tried a Crucial Data Transfer Suite that I had on hand. It found the SSD, and successfully cloned a copy of my existing hard drive. The cloned copy worked fine. Id consider upgrading this review rating by another star or two, but that would be a disservice to others contemplating a purchase. The SSD itself is fine. Useful instructions on how to get it running, however, are non-existent. Samsung support is useless. The fact that the wizard software that Samsung provides with the SSD cant find the SSD even after its been formatted is simply unbelievable. Im an electrical engineer, I own an internet business. To say Im computer literate would be a major understatement. If I had this much trouble I cant imagine how the average person would figure it out.

> 3 daySo fast. SOOO so fast. I love this drive. It has never served me wrong. I tossed it in an older laptop and it made the thing brand new. Be sure to do a clean install of the OS onto it!

> 3 dayBlazing fast. Totally rejuvenated my old laptop! Makes the laptop feel like I did a fresh install even tho all I did was clone the HD :) Be careful to turn off the Samsung magician software once youve optimized your OS for the system though. My windows 7 install had a tendency to freeze up until I stopped the magician software from loading at bootup.

> 3 dayThis is, at the time of this review, one of the best consumer SSD drives available. However, it has one big issue: The drive causes Windows 8.1 (and Windows Server 2012 R2) to crash if you turn off write caching. For most people, this wont be a problem. (Its an issue under Windows Server 2012 R2 which forces write caching off for domain controllers.)
