I ordered this because my new laptop didnt include a cd drive. It is not often I need one, but sometimes you do. This is very easy to use. It is simply plug and play. There is included software, but I did not load it. Once I plugged it in, it showed up in file explorer. Click on it and use it.

Dropped my last one and tried to get LG Tech Support to help me replace it because it was still under warranty. Nope, tech support was less than helpful, so I just bought another. Great device since most laptops DO NOT HAVE CD/DVD players. Needed it to look at x-rays of a broken finger that may have been made worse by the hospital.

The software seems to have loaded but it absolutely wont play a DVD, tried multiple disks. Error is above, there is not way to associate with an unknown app. Also, when using furnished software and selecting DVD player it returns the message that the function is not supported and one must buy software to play a DVD

I needed an external drive to go with our new MacBook Pro and wanted to stay with the brushed aluminum look. While it doesnt quite match the same look as the MacBook its pretty close and for the amount Im really going to use it close is ok with me. The outercase is all plastic which makes it really lightweight. It worked immediately when I plugged it in and didnt have to load any software or anything like that. A true plug and play device with the MacBook. My only nit with it so far is that it does get noisy when the disc is spinning at full speed. Because it is all plastic there isnt much weight to it so it vibrates. Ive ended up just resting my hand or finger on it just to put a little weight on it to stop the brief vibrating. Overall though, Im satisfied for now especially for a fraction of the price of the Superdrive.

Adding this drive to my laptop computer enables me to make copies of CDs and DVDs directly from my internal optical drive to this one without gobbling up hard drive space making an interim drive image and then swapping disks. Since one drive can be reading while the other drive is writing the copy process takes about half the time with two drives. When I plugged this drive into my Dell Inspiron laptop computer, Windows 7 took only about five seconds to install the drivers and ready this device for recording and playing disks. This drive comes with utilities for copying and managing disks and they work okay but I did not find the user interface as friendly or easy to use as a disk management program that I had already installed on my computer. At no time did I have any failures while copying no matter which software package I used. When I bought my drive it cost me less than $31 delivered, which I felt was a good value. If it had been more expensive I would have probably looked elsewhere.

I plug it into my Microsoft surface pro 4 and it work okay, I used it to load my old disks I own of Microsoft office and student 2007. I also loaded outlook 2007.. They loaded and work fine. I did not want to use the latest version of Office and Outlook App because it cost about 100 dollars or more a year to lease them fro microsoft. These work fine So this external drive paid for itself allowing me to load office and outlook, the instruction are on a sheet that is full size and is readable without a magnified glass. the device is very small, light weight and well built.. The disk that comes with the dvd disk with is a program called Media Suite 10.by Cyberlink but its not the full version it includes Power2go ,Labelprint2.5 ,Powerbackup 2.0 and Youcam 5.0. I used my desktop to load these programs. you need this external drive to load them. They loaded okay but I did not spend the time to play with these programs. I dont really need them but I will check them out and see if I have a future use for them.

I have loaded about 40 music CDs into My MacBook Air with this device and it works fine. My advice is, to disregard the very vague instructions and do the following . Turn your computer on , attach the LG writer to the computer with the included cable, open the CD tray with the eject button ,insert the included media suite 10 disc, let it run , eject that and load a CD , close the tray , it will show up in the finder section of the mac. and it will pop up on the screen and click to down load into your music. This only applies to a Mac. Im giving this 4 stars because I have not used it enough yet . I have had a number of these in wireless form and sent them all back and decided to try a cabled type writer . The cable will disconnect if the writer is moved around while in use .

Works like it is supposed to. The DVD R/W in my Dell desktop was often failing and wasting disc blanks while trying to burn. This unit saved the day. Easy simple install - plug & play on a Windows 10 machine. Been very reliable, so far. My only glitch is since it is an external device that just sits on the surface, it slides a little too easy requiring you to possibly need to hold with both hands when loading or removing a disc. Very satisfied.

I originally planned on getting a Dell, but after reading terrible reviews, I chose this one. Glad I did! Comes with a disc that contains 3 types of editing programs you can install on your computer (photos, videos, etc.). Havent tried those out yet but appreciated that it was included. This does its job well, and thats all I could really ask for.

I have a 2007 iMac and the DVD drive finally gave up the ghost. The computers still good so why not get an outboard DVD drive. After reading reviews here on Amazon and a few other places, I ordered the LG. It came quickly (Prime) well packaged and packed. Instructions are minimal but adequate. I connected it through a USB port and it powered up. In MAC OS all that was needed was to go into system preferences and choose between the defunct onboard drive or the new LG. Once selected I was able to import music to iTunes and burn discs with ease. Its a very quiet running unit, much quiter than the original inboard one, and handles my needs well. If you run Windows OS there is a disc for installing the software onto your computer. Thats it, no muss or fuss, a well made, quiet DVD drive and for a killer price.
