Greater than one weekI needed a new disc drive for my mac because the superdrive that I ordered kept ejecting certain CDs that I had. It was something where the drive couldnt register some CDs, but had no problem with others, and I didnt want to spend another $80 on a new superdrive that may have the same problem. I got this little guy in the mail today and, immediately, I plugged it in and popped in one of the discs that my superdrive couldnt read, and it was working like a charm right off the bat! Pros - lightweight - removable usb cord (can be replaced without replacing the whole device) - compatible with mac and windows - can be used with usb compatible televisions - so far, has been 100% functional - easy set-up - as quiet as my superdrive was Cons - lightweight design might make it easier to break - disc tray feels flimsy - needs installation disc for windows? - exterior retains fingerprint marks

> 3 dayI cant believe that some people cant get this to work. You have to plug it in, let it download its recognition software first, and then you can put your included Super Multi Drive Install disc in, and download the needed software to run the program. I absolutely love it, and find that it works exceptionally. I bought it for my HP Stream 13 laptop with Windows 8.1, so that I can transfer my vinyl records through Audacity and make digital files for archiving. The cds that it burns have come out absolutely phenomenal. They sound better than any cds Ive ever burned before with other HP computers, with awesome quality that rivals or even out does store bought cds. Ive been very impressed for something this cheap. Completely surpassed my expectations. It plays cds and dvds perfectly! I havent tried burning any dvds yet, but Im certain in its capability to do so. Im hoping it lasts me a long time. The build quality looks good and what you might expect from LG! Very thin and super light weight. The burn speed was also faster than I expected. Overall, I am very, very happy with this product and I would certainly buy it again. LG really makes great products! I highly recommend this product!

> 3 dayThis is a decent DVD/RW for the price. It works tested under Mac OS Catalina which is great. Its flimsy. You need to be really careful when opening the drawer, loading the disc, closing the door, etc. There is a center spindle you need to load discs on and its also flimsy. In summary, everything works on this external drive, but you have to be extra careful when you touch it because its very fragile.

> 3 dayLG Electronics USB Ultra Slim Portable DVD Rewriter, External Drive with M-DISC Support If you find yourself with a Macbook Air and a sudden need for a CD drive, look no further. I purchased one, thinking I wouldn’t miss the CD drive. As it turns out, I almost immediately found out one of my classes required the use of a program that came with the textbook for the class. Looking for a solution, I turned to Amazon. Enter the LG Electronics External Ultra Slim Portable DVD Rewriter! It fits into the USB drive on any device (the Air has plenty of those), and takes very little setup. I was able to use the device without any trouble to play any disc, and it worked great. The drive does have some potential downsides. While some reviews say it’s very quiet, you may notice it makes a whirring noise when in use. The noise is minor, and may only be distracting when it’s being used to play a movie. If you should find it annoying, a simple solution would be to set something on the player, which eliminates the noise completely. If you’re worried about the physical space taken up by the drive, it can be somewhat inconvenient. But for what it is, the space is minimal, especially compared to similar products. The USB cord isn’t very long at just over a foot, but judging from other reviews, this is also better than other products. Plus, given how slim the device is (only half an inch tall), this all allows for easy storage. I haven’t found a need for an especially long cord, so it hasn’t really posed a problem. Aside from the mild potential drawbacks the external drive has, it performs excellently and I’ve never had a problem with it. It also has a very low cost, which once again is better than many of the alternatives. I would highly recommend it. By the way, I ended up with two of these, so I sent one to my parents, who also had a computer without a CD drive. They haven’t had any problems with it, and say it works great.

> 3 dayI began hunting around for a decent-quality USB CD Drive after opting for a desktop case that did not include a standard CD Drive slot. I came across this model, and opted to purchase due to positive reviews. The drive does not disappoint. I do not use it very often since it is rare I have a need for CDs, but it does everything it was designed to do. I have played movies, burned bootable ISO disks, etc. You name it - this drive does it. Solid overall construction. It comes with a USB cable that plugs into the back of the unit. The only quality some may see as a negative is the sound. It is not exactly a quiet unit. But as a buyer, I recommend you look last this piece in favor of the great build quality. It is a CD drive - it is supposed to make noise. Noise aside - 5 stars, would buy again.

11-06-2025I needed an external drive to go with our new MacBook Pro and wanted to stay with the brushed aluminum look. While it doesnt quite match the same look as the MacBook its pretty close and for the amount Im really going to use it close is ok with me. The outercase is all plastic which makes it really lightweight. It worked immediately when I plugged it in and didnt have to load any software or anything like that. A true plug and play device with the MacBook. My only nit with it so far is that it does get noisy when the disc is spinning at full speed. Because it is all plastic there isnt much weight to it so it vibrates. Ive ended up just resting my hand or finger on it just to put a little weight on it to stop the brief vibrating. Overall though, Im satisfied for now especially for a fraction of the price of the Superdrive.

> 3 dayWorks great. I am using this with a MacBook Air. Plug and play. The package came with an installation CD-ROM, but it is not needed to use the DVD reader/writer. The reader/writer can also be plugged into a television and used as a portable storage device (IE: The TV recognizes it as a USB drive so you can play videos, music or view photos that are on a CD-ROM. The files must be readable by the TV, however. You cannot play a DVD movie in this reader through your TV). Shipping was a day late from the Prime 2-day delivery, but it came in a protected padded envelope.

> 3 dayThe software seems to have loaded but it absolutely wont play a DVD, tried multiple disks. Error is above, there is not way to associate with an unknown app. Also, when using furnished software and selecting DVD player it returns the message that the function is not supported and one must buy software to play a DVD

> 3 dayI purchased 4 of these, primarily to backup DVD to hard drive. I connect all 4 drives to a single PC and use them all simultaneously. I had real concerns about whether or not this would work, for a number of reasons. So far Ive worked through a few hundred DVD and had ZERO failures. All discs have been read successfully and theyre plenty fast. Im sure they would work well under any OS like Mac or Windows, I happen to be using Linux. The software I use to backup DVD is the command line program dd.
