I bought this originally at BestBuy for $52.99 +tax. I returned it and bought it cheaper with this vendor. I have a ABS desktop (XP Home Ed) and a HP laptop (Vista) on my desk. I rarily take my laptop downstairs so it acts like a second desktop PC. Okay, when I got it was good shape. Hooked it up following the Quick Start Guide included. No problems. Be sure both computers are completely shut down before hooking it up. After, turning them on, the drivers were recognized after a few minutes and then I was able to click Scroll Lock twice in row and VOILA!! the switch occurs. I mainly purchased it so I could play music from my Laptop PC on my Logitech PC speakers. Unfortunately I noticed that there was only one jack for the speaker input, so there is no SURROUND SOUND capability available. I am disappointed in that so hence the 4 STARS. Also the VGA connection from my Laptop to my ACER 22 inch LCD monitor is not the clearest. It is readable, however if you look closely at 1280 x 800 display setting, there is a noticable electronic line scrolling down the page and makes the font appear somewhat weirdly in a split instance. Its hard to explain. Dont be alarmed, however, because it is barely noticeable. But could drive some people nuts if they are meticulous in nature. That is the nature of the beast when you have a set up like this. This setup allows me to type from one keyboard and use one mouse and one set of speakers. So I will choose the convenience it affords me over the inconvenience of a small continuous scrolling aberation on the LCD screen and non-surround sound capability. I hope this helps you in your decision to buy or not to to buy, which is the #1 question asked by all consumers.

I had another KVM switch from TrendNet and returned 2 of them... thinking the first one was defective. I called IoGear to check that this would work with my Logitech Wireless Mouse/Keyboard combo and bought it since they said it would work. I was having video problems with the other switch, but they are not present with the IoGear switch. Works like a charm. I have two Dell laptops connected through the switch, and once I put the Logitech dongle into the right (keyboard, not mouse) port on the KVM, the keyboard-based switching works. Theres a slight delay while the computer thats being activated catches up with the connection to the mouse/keyboard, but really not a deal compared to the convenience. SO... short form -- dont buy TrendNet... buy this one - AND it costs less!

I have three such stuffs of this type. It is good that you could switch just by double click scroll lock on your keyboard, no need to touch the box itself, this is better than all other produce at the same priceline. HOWEVER, if you are an owner of ASUS A8N series motherboard, you may wanna stay away from it, the mouse and keyboard does not work normally. I directly to problem to iogear, they replied in 24 hours, saying thats the compatibility with asus mother board and they are solving that asus. Now I need to by a usb pci adaptor. This was in Jan 2006, not solved yet now, Mar 2006.

I spent many hours researching KVM switches to find one that satisfactorily switched between older PCs using Windows XP Home and a new PC running Windows 7 (64 bit). Essentially every one worked well with the older PC, but needed to have the monitor reset when switched to the Windows 7 PC. This unit advertised it would do this flawlessly. It actually does. All the equipment needed to connect the PCs to a single monitor are included in the package. Setup is relatively easy with picture directions, as well as written ones to guide you to make sure all connections are correct. There is sufficient cord length from the unit to have PCs about 6 ft away. One word of caution - connections between the unit, PCs and monitor are made through VGA connections, not DVI. During installation, I was unable to get the system to work properly. I was using the new keyboard, optical mouse connected to the unit through the USB connections. A phone call to the IOGEAR help line connected me to a most helpful tech representative. After making sure all the connections were properly done, the problem turned out to be user error by my failure to note the difference between the new keyboard and the old one. Once my training was updated, everything worked beautifully. There is no problem when going back and forth to the Windows 7 unit with the 20 inch widescreen monitor - no change in the settings. The only issue with the old Windows XP Home PC and the switch is the resolution of the PC is limited by the graphics card and not the switch. Still the slightly stretched view is perfectly satisfactory for any of our use of that machine. For sound reproduction from either of he PCs, I used only the connection provided with the switch and the sound through the monitor speakers is extremely satisfactory for my usage. From my experience, I can heartily recommend this inexpensive method to maintain quick access to data and files on an old Windows computer, while working with your new updated Windows 7 machine.

Product requires keyboard with SCROLL LOCK button (there was an alternative for MAC, but I already packed up the return, so cant include it here). So, I can either buy a giant ancient keyboard, or get a different product; so I am returning it. The agent at the IOGEAR site that I chatted with on-line made a suggestion of a different product to use, with a manual switch on the unit, so hopefully that will work. GCS72U is that part number. The IOGEAR support was great. Nice to get a hold of a helpful person.

SInce this is my first KVM switch I will withhold judgement until I do more research. So far, switching between keyboard and mouse works great. The soft key on the keyboard lets me bounce between my PC and Mac with ease and I am using a wireless mouse. I am going to add a wireless keyboard next to eliminate more clutter on my desk. There is a problem and I need to try and solve. The monitor blacks out every few minutes for 3-5 seconds, then come back. It is as if they loose signal. This never happened before. I have a Macbook Pro and an HP laptop plugged in. My monitor has 2 inputs so I might go back to using that and just switching both monitor a keyboard/mouse in 2 steps. If you are more tech savey than I am maybe you can figure this out because otherwise it is a nice little unit.

Im using this with a MacBook Pro and Gateway PC, sharing a Logitech Wave Keyboard and Dell 23 display. Works great. Had to change the HotKey to use Control key instead of Scroll Lock because Macs dont have one. CAUTION: Does not work with wireless keyboards or mouse/trackpad. They cant activate the toggle. Pro Tip: Make sure the keyboard is plugged into the Keyboard USB input or it wont register the Hotkey toggle.

I think this is the best KVM switch around for this price range. They are all a little buggy. It worked well switching between my desktop and laptop docking station. It got confused with the different video resolutions and aspect ratios between my laptop and desktop, resulting is less than perfect video on the desktop. It works perfect between two desktops. It has long cables (6) (very nice) USB mouse and keyboard emulation for error-free boot-up (very important) It doesnt need a power cord, gets power from one of the USB cables (very nice). Its fairly heavy duty. It would be great if it had automatic network connection between the two. I suppose that comes with the expensive ones.

This KVM is quit simple and very small device without external button to switch between two computers and you need to use the keyboard by press & release Scroll Lock key twice. Cables provided are long enough but your cant change them in case of demage because they are sealed with the KVM switch. I give this KVM 4 out of 5 because of delay when I switch to Windows but this problem my exist only if you use Wireless Keyboard & mouse set. It is a very good vlaue and I save $20 with Amazon instead of buying from Bestbuy or Microcenter Plus fast shipping offer one day. Thank you Amazon. After one hour palying with the KVM switch trying to figure out how function it with wireless keyboard and two different Operating systems. Finally, I make it and I would like to sure my expirence with other customers who couldnt be able to make it. :My setup: -
