I love these. Ive owned a pair for several years and purchased this set for my wife. These are a must if you are trying to hike in icy conditions or ice fishing.

YET ANOTHER: My new spikes arrived as promised with a free return label so they can examine the item. Great support IMO. ============ ANOTHER UPDATE: I emailed Kahtoola and a nice lady responded within 24 hours and said they would replace my spikes in time for the weekend. They asked me to return the broken item so they can see where it broke. Thats certainly good customer service. ============ UPDATE: I wore the new microspikes on a hike yesterday and one broke with maybe a total of 7 or 8 miles on it. The rubber that surrounds the sole of my shoe snapped between two grommets. The metal didnt tear the rubber (like with the original version), the rubber band just snapped. Its not repairable. Ill email Kahtoola but for $60 - $70 one should have spikes that last more than this. I think theyre just ruining their good name by selling even worse products than the original. Time to look for a different brand. --------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL: The old version was made in (North?) Korea and the wires either broke or tore through the rubber. After a few months mine were 30% zip ties, trying to keep them functional. These new ones (from Outland USA through Amazon) are made in Taiwan and are much different. The rubber is thinner (for flexibility?) but there are now small grommets in the rubber where the wire passes through. Ive only worn these a couple times, but Im optimistic. It appears that Kahtoola was (also) not happy of the quality of the old ones. If youre unhappy with the quality of your old microspikes, dont give up on Kahtoola yet. Ill update this review after Ive worn these a suitable amount of time.

I bought these for a trip to Mount Marcy in the Adirondack Mountains in mid-November, where we were expecting lots of ice on the mountain. We were not disappointed. About a 1/3 of the way through the ascent, we were starting to slip on the ice that was covering the majority of the trail, so we busted these bad boys out. From there on out, it was smooth sailing... traction was no longer even a thought in the back of our minds. These things really are remarkable, and I cant find a thing to complain about with them. If it ever snows here in Ohio again (like it always used to, in the winter), Im sure Ill get more use out of them on those dark cold mornings when I need to shovel the driveway, and Ill certainly be packing them for any future winter hikes! One note about sizing. If you look at their size chart, for hiking boots, Medium size is marked for mens 7-10.5 and Large size for mens 10.5-14 when sizing for hiking boots. I happen to wear a size 10.5. I ordered the Medium size first, hoping to fit them over my hiking boots (Treksta Assault Goretex), and when I received them, found them to only just barely reach around the back of my outsole. I thought this might be the case, and had allowed for enough time to order the Large to replace them (and I gave my Medium set to my friend (size 9 men) who would be joining me on the aforementioned trek). The Large fit much better around my hiking boot, which I would describe as a heavy trekking (but not insulated) boot. Just an fyi for anyone who may fall right between the sizing cracks. Hope this helps!

Im updating this review because I did another 10 miles this Saturday. It was very icy and I dealt with these migrating quite a bit on foot, and they fell off my boot several times. I ordered a medium and wear a mens 9.5 so the sizing should be right. After inspecting my gear when I got home, I noticed that one of the links failed. If I only got a season out of them I could deal with that, but they have to hold up better than 20 miles before failing on me.

Dont feel the need for a photo; sellers images suffice. Maybe Ill take a pic later. In any event, these performed beyond expectations. I currently live in Boulder, CO where snow clearance on sidewalks and streets is shotty at best. At the time of this review it is 4 degrees Fahrenheit and there is a layer of frozen ice and slush covering 90% of the walkable surfaces (anecdotal observation). That is covered by 2 inches of fresh snow. If youre over the age of 50, want to break a hip and sue the city or a property owner...nows your chance. I left for a semi-regular evening walk at about 9:00 pm (2100 for the sane amongst us). I walked almost exactly a block from my residence using my slip proof / slip resistant EMT boots and slipped constantly. I also henceforth slipped and fell on my a$$, literally. I have no interest in those figurative speakers. So, I walked the block back home and got my ExoSpikes from my car (where I kept them should I wonder off the beaten path). As a note, I also have the less extreme ExoSpikes which are just tungsten nubs (which also worked well in a different scenario). But I digress. Have I mentioned the time I lept from a moving train in Boston? Sorry, not applicable. Long story short, I put on this pair of ExoSpikes and had no issues whatsoever walking on the frozen surface of Hoth, or what I image it would like, to a bar, and back after several drinks. So maybe not the rocky icey hike the makers planned, but a normals average Tuesday night down the sullied streets of Boulder, CO. The sizing guide worked very well for these more extreme insulated boots. My other pair was fitted using the non insulated sizing guide and also fit well for my street shoes. Oh, and as for the tile. Its not like youre going doff these at your destination, store them, and then don them again when you depart. So know this, the traction you achieve on ice and snow is reciprocal to the traction on wet bathroom tile.

These were a gift for my husband and he LOVES them. They go on easily and work great! I would recommend them to anyone that does any kind of hiking in the winter.

so far, very good after one snow packed hike... nothing broke, stayed on my foot and I didnt slip Play to Live would be more accurate.

Have used these daily since arrival. Great on rocks, ice and hard snow. Sturdy! They don’t work well in wet heavy snow but I expected that-snow just balls up in the chains. Would definitely buy again. As an older hiker-I feel confident with these on

I seem to be a pro at falling on ice. I bought these because eventually I was going to get seriously injured. I love these! I can now safely walk over icy surfaces. I’ve use these for 2 winters with no problems. I keep them on 1 pair of boots all the time. It is easier to have my dedicated ice boots than removing & putting them back on all the time.
