I got this product a few short days after ordering it(via free shipping!) and brought it in to my workstation. Then I: 1)Installed the software. 2)Plugged in the intuitivel usb interface to my Mac Pro. 3)Hooked the other end up to my 10-year-old Sony VCR. 4)Popped in a VHS tape. 5)Hit the Start Recording button in the software window And BAM! had a video well on the way to being a DVD. All inside of 5min. This software is maybe TOO easy to use. I dont know if there are options missing that I will discover I need down the road, but for my immediate needs-pulling video from deteriorating VHS taped and digitizing it for DVD-this software/hardware package is elegant and perfect. This product has not been rated very highly anywhere I have seen it and I was reluctant to order it for that reason. I did so figuring I would return it if it didnt work for me. I cant stress enough how easy it was to set up and start working! Possibly the most mind-bogglingly simple-to-use setup Ive ever encountered, especially with video. I used to use Formac Studio TV firewire interface for my conversion needs. It never seemed to work as advertised, and when it did work, it invariably rendered choppy video that cut out every time there was the slightest flaw in the video tape playback. The Formac interface cost me over $200! Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed with this machine but didnt know what else might be out there! When I found the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD for Mac I was at once excited and hesitant. The reviews nearly scared me off, but the price([...]) was right. I realize that this price is higher now, but having had the chance to use it for a while, I can say it is worth the $60-$70 I normally see it advertised for. If you are a CONSUMER LEVEL user who doesnt own professional video equipment, and you need to convert some old VHS tapes to DVD or Quicktime, this is what you need! Check the system requirements against your machine and go for it!

This was very difficult for me to understand how to use. May just be my level of knowledge on the product use all in itself.

Setup of the product was easy. The one time it worked -- when I tested it for a couple of minutes on my iMac Intel Core Duo, running OS 10.6.5 -- it seemed to work well. Unfortunately, when I tried to use it again I received a message from the computer that the device was drawing too much current and that the computer had disabled the USB port. Subsequent attempts were ignored by the computer. I tried again on a different Mac on which I had installed the software, but it did not recognize the device either. Obviously, the hardware had been damaged. But this was far from obvious to the Roxio TechSupport people whom I reached via their web site. They would suggest I read the manual (which I had done), install the software (which I had done) and similar useless advice. After faithfully following their advice I told them repeatedly that we obviously seemed to be dealing with a hardware problem, but they have so far simply ignored that possibility. Needless to say, this has been a frustrating process. (I should mention that my professional background is electronic engineering, that I have used Mac computers, peripherals and software since 1986 and that many of my friends ask my help in troubleshooting their Mac hardware and software.) This process has now been going on for a month. It has usually taken 3-5 days for TechSupport to answer my messages and it has now been a week since the last time I heard from them. I have not idea how the device would work if it worked. Will update this review if anything changes.

Contrary to other reviews, this product does work with Mac OSX 10.6. The version I installed from the CD worked, without any updating necessary. The software is easy to use, and the files created will open in iMovie 11 no problem as long as you import them into your library. If you dont import them, the clips are .MOV files and will live in a folder the program creates. You can view them in Quicktime or burn them without further editing using iDVD. I recommend this software bundle. Its a great value for the money and has virtually no learning curve. Anyone can use it.

If youre transferring home movies from VHS to a digital file, this may be of use to you. I bought it to transfer the few remaining VHS movies I had to my computer, and I came to the conclusion that simply buying those movies used at your local used DVD store was much better in terms of price, time spent, and video quality. The software and hardware itself was simple to set up and use. No issues there.

Its only USB 2.0. It will only work with USB 2.0. And you only know this when you install the software and go to plug in the device and see that it wont be recognized by the software but it is recognized by the computer. So if you have an Mac that is 2012 or newer, you will not be able to use this product. I had to borrow a neighbors old 2010 MacBook Pro to use this product. It does a decent job recording the videos. Im just glad I have to do this only once. Also, Roxio customer service sucks terribly. I got one email reply back from them 24 hours after I sent one, then replied to that one like instructed to if I had more questions and its been a week and havent heard anything about they said I would have a response in 24 hours. So in the end, its fine. It gets the job done, but you need an older Mac (Pre-2011) and customer service sucks.

Bought it for my iMac to get video off my old VCR with only composite (red, white, yellow) outputs. The capture device worked OK once, but my 16:9 VHS video came through as 4:3 aspect ratios. Everyone look very thin. The software was very limited with no adjustments despite trying to get help from Roxio Tech Support. Next time I used it, the capture device was not recognized by the software so both were useless. I contacted Tech Support for a replacement or refund. VERY SLOWLY they would email ideas over the last two weeks that I had already tried. So far they have not replaced the unit or refunded anything - just more redundant questions. It seems they are just stalling to wear me out. HOWEVER, THERE IS A GREAT SOLUTION. I got a cheap Composite-to-HDMI converter and a cheap HDMI-to-USB capture device (together both cost about 2/3 the Roxio cost), and I used the free Mac QuickTime Player software (you can record using it). That worked perfectly! Do not buy the Roxio device and software for a Mac.

Purchased this after reading a ton of reviews. Bought it just before the Christmas holidays, to make it one of the projects for the holiday. Installed it on my MacBook Pro running Catalina to find that the most important piece Roxio Video Capture doesnt run on Catalina. Opened a support ticket on December 14th, and never a response from Corel Customer Support besides the automated message telling me I opened a support ticket. Luckily have an old 17 MacBook Pro, running High Sierra. Roxio Video Capture upon start told me I needed to update. It worked without updates, but ran the update software within the application and it downloaded a 300MB+ update, restarted and everything has been working. It looks like this software will become useless in the not so distant future. I got lucky by having an older Mac to run it on. I of course am in the later stages of getting my kids videos off of VHS and into a digital format so the need to do this by others is rare I suspect. Update - Finally got a response from Corel Customer Support with Actually it is an ongoing issue, Our engineers are working on it. If we receive any updates on this we will definitely let you know. Update - of 26 tapes I converted, 11 of them have sound dropping out somewhere in the recording. As soon as it drops out it never returns. So now rerunning 11 tapes through the process with fingers crossed it doesnt happen the second time around. Was all excited until we got 30+ minutes into a 2 hour video of my oldest and the sound disappeared. Changing my star rating from 4 to 2 because of this. Update January 2, 2020 - received an email from Customer Support with a download link for version 4. Downloaded and installed on my MacBook Pro running Catalina, everything started up without issues, did a quick capture of a VHS tape and everything was good on this first attempt. I dont have anymore to convert, though I suspect we will find a few in the future or help others. Boosting Rating to 3 stars at this time. If I find more to do and everything works 100% on those we will have 4 stars, will never reach 5 at this point though.

This product does what it says. I had a little trouble getting the sound to work and record, but I called Roxio tech support and they helped me get it working within about 15 minutes. I have a MacBook Air with OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.

Product worked great. Transferred videos from VHF tape player, Sony 8 mm Camcorder and from Direct TV using the two audio and single video cables to my Mac computer. (Must supply your own cables) Used the included software to edit the videos removing un-wanted sections. You can set the length of recording time to auto stop at 60, 90, 120 or 180 min or just stop while watching. Once on the computer, I used Burn as the software tool to down load to a DVD playable on any DVD player.
